Lovebucketbar
309 Karangahape Road, Auckland
R18

Milly Tabak is the vocalist and acoustic guitarist in the Auckland blues/rock band The Miltones. A critic once said she was like Stevie Nicks on Janis Joplin's drugs.
Milly puts audiences under her spell by delivering honest lyrics with soulful melodies. Likened to Stevie Nicks, Milly above all things is an entertainer. Her energy on stage will entice everyone in the room to listen to her story.
Milly has been composing songs for nine years, she’s released one album with her band (The Miltones) that won Best Independent Debut at the Taite Music Awards 2018. She’s played throughout New Zealand in some of the counties best venues and festivals including WOMAD, The Auckland Town Hall, Wellington Opera House and the Isaac Theatre in Christchurch. Her band also sold out the Tuning Fork on their last nationwide tour.
In 2016 the band went to Lyttelton to record their self-titled debut album with Ben Edwards (Nadia Reid, Aldous Harding, Marlon Williams, Tami Neilson). The album enjoyed incredible success including a 4.5/5 review in the New Zealand Listener, and The Miltones were labeled “the freshest sound in New Zealand popular music right now” by the NZ Herald. The Miltones were recognised by Auckland Live at the 2018 Taite Music Awards taking home the Best Independent Debut Album award.

About the City Mission
*****************************
As many of us are aware the Auckland City Mission helps those in need, many in very desperate situations

At Christmas time we often think of the wonderful Christmas dinner the City Mission hosts for those who are in need of some good tucker and some company. Christmas, New Year & the holiday season can be a lonely time for those who don't have family around or friends to support them & little finances, not much fun at all.

The reality is the The Auckland City Mission is there all year around providing services to those in crisis, the homeless, elderly, food distribution, drug & alcohol addiction, essential health services and advocates for those who need it and they need us to help, they rely on the generosity of people like you.

The Frank Burkitt Band

Wednesday 30th January | 8pm
Cafe One 2 One
121 Ponsonby Road, Auckland
All Ages

The Frank Burkitt Band return to Auckland as part of their 30 date 'Lost but Alive' NZ Tour.

Frank is a storyteller, songwriter, singer and guitarist. In that order. His rambling anecdotes aim to give the audience more of a connection with his songs. A folk songwriter at his core, American roots music with hints of jazz, blues and swing very much shape his music.

When he relocated to Wellington from Edinburgh with his partner and backing vocalist Kara Filbey, he formed The Frank Burkitt Band, with blues and country mandolin player Cameron Burnell and jazz double bassist James Geluk. This mix of styles and genres gives their show unique variety, alongside tight knit harmonies and well crafted arrangements.

2019 will see The Frank Burkitt Band embark on the longest tour of their lives. From January - June, they intend to take their music all around New Zealand, Australia and the UK. Yes, they are quite ambitious and slightly unhinged. They will be releasing a new live EP to coincide with their touring adventures.

Shakey Graves

Wednesday 24th April | 8pm
The Powerstation
33-35 Mt Eden Road, Eden Terrace
R18

One Auckland Date Announced for Americana singer-songwriter from Texas
THE POWERSTATION - 24 APRIL 2019
Tickets on sale 10am Friday 16 November from AAA Ticketing
Shakey Graves a.k.a Alejandro Rose-Garcia was born in Austin Texas to a musical family and is best-known for playing a smoky, spectral fusion of blues, folk and rock in a stripped down one-man-band style.
Shakey Graves live performances can be deceiving. Up to now, he’s been categorised as an Americana singer-songwriter, thanks to his traditionally rooted songs, fluent acoustic-guitar picking, Texas roots and cowboy hat, looking like a one-man country band. But the tag will undoubtedly be dismissed as restrictive and irrelevant once discerning listeners hear his radical new album performed live in Auckland next April.
Back in December 2017, Shakey Graves proclaimed on his Twitter page, “Next album. New sound. Sell your suspenders.” The tweet was tongue-in-cheek, but Alejandro Rose-Garcia, the Austin native who’s been plying his trade as Shakey Graves since 2007, was making a dead-serious point about his latest album, Can’t Wake Up. This ambitious, audacious work heralds an artistic metamorphosis for the 30-year-old veteran, whose risk-taking in painting outside the lines has been rewarded tenfold. “This record is the most I’ve ever intentionally worked on a project, musically speaking, in terms of the scope of it and how much thought went into it,” he says. “It’s a dense album; there’s a lot of information going on.”
Known for his interactions with the fans during the show, we’re looking forward to seeing Shakey Graves live in Auckland this April!
